What a US eBay fee estimate includes

Figures below were checked against the published policy pages on October 8, 2026. They illustrate one supported case. They are not an invoice. For the general non-Store schedule checked that day, the percentage is 13.6% through $7,500 of the fee base and 2.35% on the amount above that. A per-order fee is $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less and $0.40 when it is above $10.

The fee base in that schedule includes the item price, buyer-paid shipping, buyer handling, and sales tax. Tax can raise the fee even though the remitted tax is not your revenue. Books, media, guitars, trading cards, and other listed categories use their own rates. This example does not silently apply the general rate to those categories.

General-schedule illustration, per-fee half-up
LineAmount
Item + buyer shipping, treated as revenue$55.00
Sales tax in the fee base$4.40
Fee base$59.40
13.6% of the fee base$8.08
Per-order fee, total above $10$0.40
Illustrated fees$8.48
Product, seller postage, packaging$26.00
Illustrated profit$20.52

Read the profit line with the costs

Revenue in the table is $55. Fees are $8.48. The $20 product, $5 seller postage, and $1 packaging are $26.00 together, and profit is $20.52. Leave any of those costs out and the profit figure gets larger without the sale getting better.

Managed payments in this reviewed US case does not add a second generic PayPal processing fee. If you pay some other charge, enter it as its own cost. Store subscriptions, promotions, refunds, and credits are outside this single-order illustration.

Use the calculator for a supported order

The eBay fee calculator is where a supported US order is broken into lines. If the category is not in the reviewed schedule, or the sale uses a Store rate or another date, enter a labeled custom percentage instead of borrowing the 13.6% row. A future conversion-fee change dated October 14, 2026 is not part of this USD illustration.

Common questions

Why is sales tax in the fee?

For the supported US case, eBay includes tax in the final-value fee base. The tax still is not seller revenue.

Why might my bill differ?

Category, shipping exceptions, promotion, account credits, refunds, the fee date, and rounding can all change the charge.
